Last, was BuSpar, couldn't go the full count of (30 mg twice a day). Tried half and still couldn't get over the bad feelings, burning and red face. 
17.  I am a very active person. Rehab was only suggested before having lung  surgery in 98. I still do some of the exercises but not daily as I should.
18.  I use a nebulizer and I take a mixture of Albuterol and Atrovent every 4-6 hours.

4. I was 57 when first told I had Emphysema.
5. I was about 53 when my Family Doctor told me that I had chronic bronchitis.
6. I got double pneumonia in January of 1999 which sent me to the hospital. My pulse ox when I was admitted was 63.
7. My Family Doctor called in a Pulmonologist and I still see her anytime I have a problem with Emphysema.
8. Pulmonary Function Tests and chest x-rays along with Blood gases.
9. My Pulmonologist directed and read all tests.  She explained to me in detail what the numbers meant.

11. Atrovent - twice daily, morning and evening 2 puffs each time. I can also use this every 4 hours if I am having difficulty      breathing.
Serevent - twice daily, morning and evening 2 puffs each time.
Flovent -  twice daily, morning and evening 2 puffs each time.
12. These are the only ones I have ever taken and they work well for me.
13. Lasix - 80 mg. twice daily.
K-Dur - twice daily

14. These are the only ones I have ever taken and so far they seem to be working for me.
15. I take 1 mg. of xanax for panic attacks and to help me sleep.
16. I get Thrush from my inhalers and I use a spacer, as well as rinsing my mouth after each use. The Pulmonologist has advised some people just get it regardless of what they do.  Therefore I also take Nystatin which is an oral antibiotic.  As long as I take it I do not have a problem with the Thrush.

I went through a 12 week course twice a week for Pulmonary Re-hab which consisted of a treadmill, bicycle, and arm resistence machine.  Now that I am through with that I now go to a supervised excercise program that is also held in the Pulmonary Re-hab department at the hospital.  It is also twice a week and I use the same equipment.  This cost is $56.00 for 12
visits or 6 weeks. On top of this I have a treadmill at home and I walk 40 minutes in the morning and 40 minutes in the evening with o2.

19. I use supplemental oxygen for excercise at 4 LPM.  I also use it while sleeping at 2 LPM.

When it is very cold outside (10 degrees or colder I have trouble breathing outside.  Sleeplessness in my biggest problem.  I sleep well for about the first three hours and then I am up and down the rest of  the night.  I wake up and can't go back to sleep.  Often I will come downstairs and sleep in my recliner a while.  Because my sleep is so irratic I often take a nap in the afternoon.

26.I think this group is one of the best: every one helping each other God bless you all.  I take promethazine for cough when needed: works great and I use bendryl when needed for allergies. I take naproyen sodium for head pain or any kind of pain only when needed, and I have hypercholesterolemia and a supraventricular tachycardia, but i am ok I enjoy people and would do anything to help any of you that I could.

7. No,(not initally- xrays were clear!
8. Hospitalized in local hospital Oct.98. Transferred to Emergency at Regional Hospital, then to ICU where x-rays, blood gasses and oximetry were done and a bronchoscopy as well as many blood tests for various diseases.
9. Respiratory Specialist - received information over the next several days.  It was probably sufficient at the time but I had to do a lot of my own homework and there are still outstanding questions.
10. No pre-testing.
11. Pulmcort  2 puffs x twice daily.  Ventalin 1 or 2 puffs as required
12. Hadnít used any puffers.
13. Accupril  10 mgs once daily;  Furosemide 20 mg x twice daily, Zoloft 100 mg x once daily; C.E.S. (Premarin) 0.625 x once daily.    Tylenol 3 (for nocturnal cough).  Prednisone bursts as required; antibiotics as required
14. Most minor anti-biotics. Allergic to Penicillin and Demerol.
15. Zoloft as above
16. Prednisone at the higher levels 40 mg and above make me Ďwiredí and jumpy and forgetful.  Intravenous antibiotics cause pain and swelling in arm (or foot - (if they canít find a vein in my hand)
17. Rehab was not suggested.  I had to ask for a referral to ďthe BIG city.  Exercise - walking only.
18. No nebulizer
19. Oxygen at night and occasionally during the day.
20. Sleeplessness (big time).  Not intolerant to heat but always hot while taking Prednisone-
21. No longer employed (was working full time until Oct. í98)
22. 70 % of salary - considered fully disabled.
23. Have covereage under provincial medical plan as well as some extended benefits from employer.  Sufficient, so far, thank goodness.
