7.  I was mis-diagnosed by 6 Dr. during 10 years.  Went to the Dr. with shortness of breath, was diagnosed with depression and
panic attacks.  I went from Dr. to Dr. they all said the same thing even though I would tell them my dad had emphysema, they would  take chest x-rays and tell me everything was ok.  Finally I got so bad last year I told my pcp something had to be done, he took a chest x-ray turned pale and told me he was setting me up with a pulmonary dr. ASAP.  I went to the Pulmonary Specialist, I had end stage emphysema, chronic bronchitis and asthma.
8.  I really couldn't tell you what all he did, I do know he gave me numerous breathing test and checked my ABG.

Albuterol, USP for my proventil.  At present I do not use any albuterol inhalers.

no answers until I wound up at a chiropractor's office.
7.  It was the chiropractor who referred me to the pulmonary doctor.
8.  Full set of PFT's; ABG
9.  Pulmonary doctor's respiratory therapist.  Yes, definitely!
10.  Yes, I was pretested to see if I responded to the inhalers.

14.  None that I'm aware of.
15.  Xanax - 0.25mg 2 to 3 a day as needed
16.  After being on Aerobid M for nearly 4-1/2 years, I developed SOB that lasted about 1/2 hour after taking the prescribed dosage which was
4 puffs bid.  That is when I switched to Flovent 220
17.  About 3 months after diagnosis, I asked about rehab and it was provided by my pulmonary doctor's respiratory therapist - the one who
had given me my original PFT's.  She monitored me every 10 days for about 3 months and since then every 3 to 4 months my sats are checked
while I'm on the treadmill.  I was up to 2.6 mph until last January when I became SOB for no apparent reason.  The SOB disappeared as quickly as
it appeared May 1.  I had dropped back to 2.3/2.4 and can't seem to be able to pick the 2.6 pace again.
18.  No
19.  Using supplement oxygen for exercise and am just starting to use it more when I go to the mall and grocery shopping.  I don't need it at

20.  I live in Florida and have NO desire to travel to a cooler climate during the winter months.  When the temp drops below 70, I put on my
socks.  :)
21.  No.  But then, I'm so busy now I don't know how I ever had time to work!
22.  Full disability.  I was eligible for and received SSD effective January '94.
23.  HMO - things are changing and not necessarily for our good.
24.  I have not, as yet, scheduled any surgery.  I feel my diffusion is too advanced for LVRS so my only consideration will most likely be a
transplant.  With an FEV-1 of less than 20% post.........
25.  Sure, I'd be most happy to communicate directly with anyone I might be able to help enjoy life after diagnosis.  To steal a phrase I heard,
I have emphysema; it doesn't have me!
26.  I can't help but feel exercise plays a most significant role along with a positive mental attitude.  When I was diagnosed, my FEV-1 was 20%
pre and 26% post.  I have not been hospitalized due to my illness. Learn all you can about your diagnosis and follow the doctor's orders
taking your medications as prescribed and don't forget to exercise! It's the key Folks!
27.  Former smoker - I quit cold turkey the day I had my PFT's - 5/19/93
28.  Yes - treadmill and weights to maintain upper body strength.
29.  Really haven't had any infections but I have been given Biaxin (hate the taste) and Bactrim when they (doctors) were concerned that I
did have an infection due to a lingering cough.  They have since determined the cough is caused by post nasal drip.
