ROBERT (BOB) DIMARTINO
WINSTED,
CT – Robert C. “Bob” DiMartino, 68, of
East Wakefield Blvd., died
Wednesday, January 14, at
Charlotte
Hungerford
Hospital, after a long term
battle with emphysema. He was the husband of
Lorraine (Gagne) DiMartino.
Mr. DiMartino was born December 23rd, 1935, in
Torrington, son of the late Lillian
and Joseph DiMartino, and Angelo Zaccagnino.
An avid reader and lifelong educator, Bob touched many lives.
He placed a high value on family and friends, and enjoyed spending time
with both at his home on
Highland
Lake.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Dina Grant of Barkhamsted and Lori
Gibb of Winsted; a son, Robert J. DiMartino of Winsted; and seven grandchildren
who were the joy of his last years. “Pop-pop” will be missed
by all.
He graduated from The Gilbert School and St. Bonaventure University, then went
into the Army Reserves and retired as a captain. He also attended
Boston
University
Law
School. In 1963, Bob began
his teaching career at
Irving
Robbins
Middle School in
Farmington. He spent the last
twenty-plus years of his career teaching at
Central
Connecticut
State
University, where he
mentored many future teachers. Education was a way of life
for him; a passion that he passed on to all three of his children. In addition
to his career in education, he was active in Junior Achievement and served on
the Winsted Board of Education for several years. He was
also owner of “The Pit Stop” Carwash in Winsted.
Arrangements:
Funeral Service Saturday 10 a.m. at
St. Joseph’s Church,
Main Street.
Calling Hours will be Friday 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Maloney Funeral Home,
55 Walnut Street.
