James Ellis Rowley, 69, of Norman died
Wednesday, March 1, from complications of COPD (Chronic Obstructive
Pulmonary Disease). A Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m., Tuesday at St.
Joseph's Daily Mass Chapel in the Family Life Center. Interment will
follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Services are under the direction
of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
Mr. Rowley was born Oct. 10, 1936, in Long Beach, Calif., to Glenn and
Lucille Rowley. He grew up in Arroyo Grande, Calif., and Napa Calif.,
where he graduated from high school and junior college. In 1957, he
received an appointment to the U.S. Navel Academy in Annapolis, Md. He
graduated with the class of 1960, and commissioned an officer in the Navy.
He served from 1960 until 1970. After leaving the Navy, he worked as an
engineer for Westinghouse Corporation and Wolverine Copper Tube Mill in
Shawnee. Mr. Rowley was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and
the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Scoutmaster for Troop 219 and Troop
240.
Mr. Rowley was preceded in death by his parents and four infant children
James, Jr., David, Mary and Michael.
Survivors include his wife Margaret of the home; daughter Tricia Vaughn
and husband Jerry of Goldsby; son Timothy and wife Deb of Kent, Minn.;
brothers Don, Dick and Gene; granddaughters Courtney Vaughn of Blanchard
and Lacey Vaughn of Goldsby; stepdaughters Nancy Thiery and husband Kyle
and Vikki Warner of the home and two step-grandchildren Kyley and Kaleb.
