Frank Swink, 76, of Mount Pleasant, died after a long battle with emphysema Sunday, March 24, 2002, at his home.
Born Jan. 4, 1926, in Hillsboro, he was the son of Frank R. and Blanche Huddleston Swink. On April 1, 1950, he married Phyllis J. Perry in Fairfield.
Mr. Swink worked for Iowa Electric Light and Power in Fairfield and then Muscatine. He was finance manager of Blue Bird Midwest in Mount Pleasant from 1962 until his retirement in July 1988.
He was a 1943 graduate of Fairfield High School and a 1952 graduate of Parsons College in Fairfield.
He was an Army veteran, serving in the Infantry in the European Theater of Operations until May 1947. He received the Purple Heart.
He attended Calvary Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant and was a former member of the Mount Pleasant Kiwanis Club. He loved to golf and was a former member of the Mount Pleasant Golf and Country Club, where he had at least one hole–in–one. He was active in EFFORTS, the Emphysema Foundation For Our Right To Survive.
He was an active man who gardened, was handy around the house and enjoyed working with computers.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Paula Switzer of Shawnee, Kan., and Ann Noel of Mount Pleasant; four grandchildren; one great–grandson; one sister, Mary Raymond of Fairfield; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and two brothers.
Visitation will begin after noon on Tuesday at Olson–Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Swink will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church, with Pastor Jeffrey Crawford officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in Hillsboro Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Memorials have been established for Crossroads Hospice of Southeast Iowa and Calvary Baptist Church.
